An off-plan first-rate villa project set on an extensive piece of land in Gavalochori.
With a total built surface of the main building extending to more than 300 sq m and a guest house of approx. 30 sq m this property will be one of the biggest on the market.
The design of the villa follows a minimal/modernist approach, with clear straight lines and the main structure that is divided into two parts.
The west side is designed with a massive open plan space taking up the ground floor. A kitchen (west part), a dining room (central part) and a living room (east part) will be completely open to the landscaped gardens, the swimming pool area, and the horizon further north. This part of the villa will be a single floor, with a roof terrace covering the whole extent of the top, and a great part of it will be under the shade of a rooftop pergola.
Right outside the dining room, an outdoor dining area big enough to fit a table of 12 will enjoy the shade of a ground floor pergola and all the perks of Mediterranean weather.
The east side of the villa will be a bedtime temple. Three bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom will take up most of the ground floor. The rest will be taken up by an extra (guest) bathroom and a storage room. An interior staircase will lead up to the master bedroom of the villa, a massive room with its own ensuite bathroom, a dressing room, and access to the first-floor balcony, the best viewing platform one can dream of, also sitting under the protection of a pergola. A few meters west of the main structure, an independent, completely self-sustained guest house with its own bed and bath will serve as a backup for extra guests or an autonomous room reserved for staff.
Right in front of the villa, a 90 sq m infinity pool coupled with a shaded Bbq terrace can probably take everyone’s minds off the problems of daily life and usher them in a dolce vita mode.
The property will be surrounded by a stone fence and surrounded by olive trees and cypresses, the views both sea and mountain offered by both ground and first floor level will be magnificent.
The whole area is quiet and peaceful, green, and mild in climatic conditions, due to the elevation of the land and its proximity to both sea and the mountains.
Gavalochori is located in the north of Apokoronas at an altitude of 100 meters, in a valley formed between the hills of Vamos (south of the village) and the hills of Kefalas (to the east). The village owes its name to the Gavalas family (pl. Gavalades), one of the twelve that settled in Crete after its reconquest from the Arabs in the 10th century and became known as “archontopoula” (noblemen). The first recorded reference to the village is made in a 1182 decree issued by the Byzantine emperor Alexios Komnenos for the distribution of fiefs. The village is mentioned as Gavaloghori Astiraca by Barozzi in 1577 and as Gavalochori Amighdali by Basilicata in 1630. Gavalochori maintained its importance and population during the Ottoman rule), but this doesn’t mean that locals didn’t participate actively in the struggles for liberation from the Ottomans. During the revolution of 1821 Gavalochori became the seat of the "Cretan Council", while after 1893 several locals joined the fraternity that developed into the Metapoliteftiki Committee, among which Konstantinos Malinos, Charalambos Papadakis, Emmanuel Krasas and others.
Gavalochori is one of the most important traditional villages of Apokoronas, where visitors can see well preserved examples of folk architecture, such as a two-aisled vaulted olive mill of the 18th century, the churches of Panagia (Virgin Mary) and Agios Sergios, the old school (scholio) and many old houses from the Venetian era. In Gavalochori one can find the only Folklore Museum in the Prefecture of Chania that falls under the jurisdiction of the Greek Ministry of Culture, which was founded in 1967 and inaugurated in 1993. The museum is made of a house and an olive mill that have been declared a historic monument and hosts exceptional works of folk art, such as textiles, furniture, paintings and weapons of all kinds. The village is also known for its Women’s Cooperative, which promotes the traditional art of lace making (known as kopaneli) and agro tourism. On the slope east of the village one can also find thirty stone wells of the Venetian era, known as Gavaliana pigadia.
Administratively, Gavalochori also includes the settlements of Agios Pavlos and Aspro.
